Responsibilities

The Department Director, Patient Access plans, directs, supervises, coordinates and monitors patient registration policies and procedures for all inpatient and outpatient care on a continuous basis to provide safe and expedient care for the patient.

The primary responsibilities of the Department Director, Patient Access:
  • Serves as a liaison with physicians, nursing and ancillary departments to continually provide quality care during the scheduling and registration process.
  • Manages Central Scheduling, including all of the ancillary departments' outpatient appointments.
  • Oversees insurance verification, pre-cert verification, co-pay validation and out-of-pocket estimation.
  • Provides new employees with orientation and on-the-job training so employee has necessary registration/scheduling skills.
  • Conducts performance evaluations with an emphasis on the patient experience.
  • Creates/implements staffing plans for each site based on volumes and hours of operation.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all third-party payors. Implements policies/procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Defines and implements quality and productivity metrics to ensure each staff member's efforts are maximized.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED and a minimum of five years of hospital patient registration experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Administration or similar field of study highly preferred.
