Department Manager, Security
Full Time, Variable Shifts Monday through Sunday

Responsibilities

Under general direction of the Director of Security and Safety, the Department Manager of Security supervises and directs the daily operations of the security staff on duty seven days a week. The Department Manager of Security will oversee, monitor, evaluate and decide on a coordinated security response that meets the needs of Grand View Health. Additionally, the Department Manager of Security will oversee and advise on complex technical security issues, security systems integration and modernization of security techniques for the benefit of the hospital's patients, employees, visitors, buildings and property.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs and supervises all essential functions within the job description of a Grand View Health Security Officer while providing leadership in responding to all priority incidents. Serves as the hospital incident investigator working closely with hospital leadership to fairly and properly adjudicate difficult situations.
  • Works with management in creating and interpreting hospital policies, on an as requested basis, to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, Grand View Health staff and property.
  • Compiles annual, quarterly and monthly security and safety activity reports, incident reports, scheduling and risk assessment reports. Checks all reports, logs and records according to departmental standards and supervisory direction to ensure proper documentation.
  • Maintains effective and professional liaison with local law enforcement agencies, establishing relationships and communicating regularly to keep law enforcement aware of the hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the management of the Grand View Health security systems to protect the hospital, patients, employees and visitors, including security IT software, entry access, mass notification and security at all hospital locations. Become proficient with administrative privileges accessing and managing all Grand View Health computerized systems to provide training to other members of the Security department.
  • Displays poise and tact under stressful conditions, striving to exhibit a professional manner at all times in order to maintain control of the circumstances.
  • Performs regular security and safety assessments at all hospital locations, owned and leased, to find and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps. Evaluates potential improvements and provides recommendations to leadership in a cost-effective manner.
  • Participates in the Emergency Management, Safety and Workplace Violence Committees, working closely with committee members to assist in setting goals and direction to meet the needs of the employees, patients and community.
  • Interviews, hires, counsels, disciplines, commands and terminates department personnel according to Grand View Health policy. Consults with the Director of Security and Safety and Human Resources on hiring and terminations.
  • Creates and keeps ongoing training for security officers while working on getting the department IAHSS-certified. Provides orientation and training for security officers while ensuring all compliance competencies are met, actively rounding on all shifts.
  • Performs regular emergency management exercises to prepare hospital and off-site staff for emergency events while recommending improvements for hazard mitigation and collaborates with the safety committee in hospital-wide safety education.
  • Provides staff education related to security, emergency management, incident command, HAZMAT operations and active shooter preparations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma/GED and over three (3) years of security supervisory experience required.
  • Associate's degree and over five (5) years of security experience, department management experience highly preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Active Pennsylvania's driver's license required upon hire.
